Am the outdoor types, thanks to my very itchy feet. Rugby7s is one of my top favorite outdoor event i look forward to attend if the situation allows. Just watching those boys sweat it all out with their +6Foot athletic build makes for serious some eye candy..bloop! The event is full of pomp and colour; with a jeer here and a cheer there from the spectators, event organizers, cheerleaders, commentators et all. So much activity but all fun nevertheless.
The spectators don their own theme inspired costumes that have an artistic edge. Theres one costume though that never misses the stage; that Tina Turner wig and Flintstones outfit, someone got to wear! I mostly opt for my favourite teams flag-Kenya 7s as my costume! Go Injera!!. But you can check google for ideas; i mean we are living in times where creativity is IPad, IPhone or whichever I is in the market
Koroga Festival would be another outdoor event i love to attend. It is a bi-monthly Kenyan arts festival that attracts an international audience by featuring international artists. Jazz Maestro Manu Dibango was the main act when i attended. They have also hosted Africa’s finest artists; the likes of Diamond, Fally Ipupa, Mafikizolo, Awilo Longomba to headline the show. Its actually very ideal for people looking to network.
Another outdoor vibe my itchy feet loves to do is taking long drives to nowhere and ending up somewhere. These rides are quite therapeutic and the beautiful views of the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of the city are so rejuvenating. Life can leave you drained sometimes and taking such rides refreshes your whole being. The people you meet lead a different kind of life which makes it interesting to strike conversations and hear their perspective on life, things and situations. Such lazy drives include Treetops Hotel in Nyeri – which was the place where Queen Elizabeth 11 was dining when she was declared Queen. They say she checked into the hotel as a Princess and left as a Queen. While there you also get to see some Elephants and Buffalos who come to the hotel at sunset and because of their wild nature, you can only view them from the observation deck or from a safe distance. Mt. Kenya also sits pretty amidst all this. The nature of it all!!
Nature walks at Thompson Falls in Nyahururu or Limuru are breathtaking especially since these places have very conducive weather. Rongai also has beautiful hideaways and the great thing is most are actually somewhere in the midst of Nairobi National Park so you wouldnt miss to see a Zebra here or a Buffalo there. Lions too!! Now that you need to watch out because they are wild wild wild. All in all, trips have a wellness effect on human health which means trips keep the doctor away. With that in mind may your itchy feet lead you to beautiful places.
